Protecting ClimbersCreating Safe Spaces for the Climbing Community
Preventing Abuse
After two high-profile cases of abuse surfaced in the climbing community, we knew something needed to be done. High profile climbers as well as Olympic level coaches have been predators within our community. This needs to stop.
1 in 3 women in the United States experience sexual assault of some form. 1 in 6 men will experience sexual abuse as well.
The patterns of abuse are standard across every demographic, location, and community and we are here to help climbers recognize those patterns to prevent being abused and to educate gyms and climbing organizations on how to prevent abuse from occuring in their communities.
How We Can Help
Educating Climbers
Recognize patterns of abuse, know where to report, and stay safe in climbing areas.
Creating Standards for Organizations
Educate staff, create safe spaces, foster a community that speaks up, and implement safety standards within your organization.
Evaluating Safety in Gyms
Find the safest gyms in your area or get your gym listed in our Safe Spaces to Send.
Our Approach
We visit climbing gyms to analyze their safety standards and provide recommendations for creating safer spaces. Through community outreach, we educate climbers on ways to protect themselves from victimization and foster a culture of vigilance. We compile a comprehensive list of the safest gyms across the country, ensuring climbers know where they can train with peace of mind. Additionally, we connect survivors of abuse with critical services to help them heal and reclaim their sense of security.
